Master Andrew Paton, 8th degree Black Belt

President and Founder of UKA Self Defense Canada

Provincial Ambassador to the World Black Belt Bureau (WBBB)

International Martial Arts Master Instructor

Special Black Belt course for students who desire to teach others. Also learn special advanced skills, self defense techniques, various hand blocking and kicking.

Master Paton has been involved in martial Arts his whole life. When he was just 8 years old he joined a Judo school in the GTA and has never looked back. The son of a Police Officer, Master Paton was often bullied as a child by the older kids from his school after they had had a run in with the authorities. A young Paton decided to do something to stop the constant bullying and the beatings. He took up Judo and began to learn to defend himself.

Over the years he excelled in many different styles of martial arts; from Judo he learned the art of Kung fu, and Wing Chun Kung Fu and then years later joined a Tae Kwon Do school. Master Paton won the light heavyweight full contact championship in 1974 and 1975/1976. Master Paton was a dedicated student under 9th Degree Grand Master Chung Kee Tae in Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido and was promoted to assistant instructor under Master Chung Kee Tae’s system.

It was around this time he moved up to 5th Degree Black Belt, and then spent six years as a 6th Degree Black Belt, and then spent 10 years as a 7th Degree Black Belt. In March of 2005 Master Paton traveled down to Memphis, Tennessee to the World Black Belt Bureau Headquarters where he received his 8th Degree Black Belt from the Founder of the WBBB and Instructor to Elvis Presley and Bill “Superfoot” Wallace - Master Kang Rhee 9th Degree Black Belt.

In a letter of Congratulations to Master Paton, Master Rhee writes:

"I am very proud of you and of the job that you do. It is clear that you are an excellent martial artist. You exemplify the true essence of martial arts spirit with your integrity, courage, humility and strength of character.”

Master Paton is one of the highest ranked martial artists in Canada. He is empowered to register and test students from all martial arts styles up to and including the rank of 7th Dan.

To date, Master Paton has educated approximately 50 Black Belts, including other Master Instructors of various ranks. Master Paton is also one of the youngest 8th Degree Black Belts in North America, as well as the first Canadian Ambassador to the World Black Belt Bureau.

“It’s an honor to have that level and to be able to teach and learn” (Owen Sound Sun, Denis Langlois, page B1, Wednesday April 13, 2005)

Over the years Master Paton created and developed his own system “Universal Kung Soo Do” and had it copyrighted in 1990. This system combines Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido and Kung Fu, while using both the right and left sides of the body. Master Paton’s system is one of the most advanced systems in North America. He currently has three schools that teach his system and plans to continue forward in his Martial Arts career.
